Is it the Most Wonderful Time of the Year?

So they call it the "Most Wonderful Time of the Year," over the winter holidays.

I agree with this statement for the most part because it's filled with quality family time, good food, and occasionally a day or two off from working (I do love my job, but everyone needs a day off right?). Plus, I am also a big fan of Christmas Lights, Christmas Movies, and Christmas Music.

While I am sure there are many that do feel the same as me, I have heard a lot of people saying it's the opposite. A lot of people seemed stressed out with gift-buying and complain about too much family time.

What are your thoughts on the holidays? Any unique traditions?

  1. If you allow yourself to get caught up in hustle and bustle of buying gifts and lose the focus of what Christmas is really about, then it can get very overwhelming. I have four children and while I make certain my kids receive a fair amount of gifts, I also make certain to instill the true meaning of Christmas and we celebrate Christ's birth.
On Christmas Eve, we read the Christmas story from the Bible, then the kids receive two gifts each. One is a new pair of pajamas to wear to bed and the other is a unique ornament made just for them. Each year, they add their new ornament to the tree. When they are old enough to get their own place to live, they will take all the ornaments they have received over the years and hang them on their own tree. This way, they start out with 18-24 ornaments to treasure! It's been really fun. My oldest daughter is 20 and she recently got her own apartment. This year, she will start her own Christmas traditions in her new place.
As far as family time.....there could never be too much in our home!!

  2. Kandace, thanks for sharing your traditions. That sounds like an amazing way to spend Christmas. It's important to have those things to bring families closer together. My mother and I have had a similar tradition with the Christmas Eve pajamas. Although, we can't be together this year I have a new pair of pj's in the mail for her (lucky for me she isn't into blogging). I bet your children really appreciate the ornaments and will always have stories to tell when they are hanging on their own Christmas trees. But most importantly, I am sure the family appreciates your time together and will continue those traditions for the years to come. Merry Christmas!
