My Next Chapter

For the past month, I have been filling in for KRBC's morning show, Abilene Today while Stephanie Harris transitions into her new role as main anchor here.
It's been quite the adjustment, waking up well before the sun for the past month. I've filled in for Stephanie a hand full of times in the past, but doing it every day for a month if tough stuff.
For the most part, I have been waking up between 2-2:30 every morning to get ready and hopefully be into work by 3-3:30. When I say those numbers to people, many say, "what the heck do you do up there at the TV station at the hour, when the news doesn't even start until 6?"
I probably thought the same thing before, but it didn't take long to realize just how much work goes into the morning show. As the morning anchor, you are also the shows producer, (responsible for putting all of the content, editing, and director's cues into the show). Plus, it's KRBC's longest newscast (an hour long as opposed to the normal half hour shows we have). That's a long show, or as Stephanie often refers to it, as a "beast of a show". Granted the second half hour is essentially a repeat for those that might've missed the first half, but there are still plenty of differences.
The only thing I really struggled with filling in for the past month was the initial getting out of bed part when the alarm clock went off. After you're up...you're up. I get a little sleepy in between Abilene Today and Abilene Midday...and then following both shows, I am beat.
The morning show is a fun show to anchor though. I had a blast doing it. The morning crew we have is amazing. They make it fun to be up at crazy hours and frankly, they are a bunch of goofballs. I am going to miss working with them without a doubt.
But, I am excited for the mystery anchor to debut on Monday. I think she brings great talent to KRBC and a new kind of energy to wake up and start your day to.
Now to Abilene Midday. Abilene Midday, I like to call my baby. It's how I got my start anchoring, and while it's only been my job since April 20th to anchor it, I have learned so much.
It was a great experience producing and anchoring a brand new show for KRBC, since it had been at least 20 years since KRBC even had an afternoon newscast. So, I am very thankful to have had the opportunity to kind of set the tone for a new show. Abilene Midday is a fun and hip show with it's facebook feedback segments. Viewers seem to really like it, and it is unique to be the only newscast in the Big Country that lets viewers share their opinions live on TV. I think as time goes by more and more people will catch onto the new style newscast and hopefully will become a fan of the show.
The mystery morning anchor will also be taking over as midday anchor.
Now as for me, my anchoring days are not over. I am just moving to a different spot. I will now be co-anchoring with Randy Turner come Monday. I am looking forward to having the opportunity to work with him. I will also be getting back in the reporting game; reporting for the six o'clock news. I feel pretty lucky to be able to get the chance to both anchor and report in just a days time. Don't get me wrong, it's going to be a lot of work but it's also going to be great experience.
So here's to my next chapter here at KRBC.

  3. Our family didn't think the "old style" was bad.
If we didn't like the way things were being done we wouldn't have watched the KRBC news for 15 years. In other words we WONT be watching the "new style". The news is NOT for the high school age children. That is what yall act like now. We have started watching KTAB as of today.

  4. I don't thing the news is suppose to be fun and games. It not some tinny bopper show. The news is suppose to be educational and informing. I am doing the some thing as Mrs. Bell. I'm switching over also. My husband is hopping that Downing and the others will find a place on KTXS.

  5. Husband said I made a big mistake on my post before. I should not have said we are watching KTAB know. We ARE watching KTSX now. After watching for the same news 15 years it is going to be hard not to get mixed up.

  6. I have know I have been seeing a lot more advertising both stations. If you have go news people you wouldn't have to advertise more. I didn't care for any of the commercials they were too loud and fast. Let me guess a new style. What did the viewers IQ drop also?

  7. That's like saying a car dealership doesn't need to sell more cars as long as it keeps is showroom nice and lovely for people to hang out in. Advertising is how all media: television, radio, magazines, etc makes money.

  8. If you are selling cars and selling them to the same people for 20 years and they like the things the way they were then why change. Get my point now. A a question if your have had the same viewers of 10-15 years and they were staying then why change? You should take a pole I know I'm not the only one that thinks you are losing viewers. The advertisements are loud and fast. Last night we were watching TV and a advertisement for KRBC came on and my husband muted it because it was so loud it woke our 1 year old up. We are among the ones that changed news when Downing left and they started going towards the YOUNGER viewers like high school age the way yall act.

  9. Who care about the news we just want to have fun fun fun. RIGHT? Just another place for lovely people to hang out! PLEASE pull your head out. The MOST respected man in news in this area they got rid of. How good could that be. These young news people if you want to call them that have no clue. Remember it has been fun fun fun for the past year. Some man came in and saw all the young pretty girls and had a thought. Lets get rid of the trustworthy and put the pretty ones on the news. We all get it but we don't like it. I hope they end up running the stations in the ground and closing them both. That sound like fun fun fun!

  11. From someone who is reading these blogs for the first time...after reading the last few posts & comments...Brittany is not the one who is coming across in an unfavorable light. I have yet to read anything in her blog posts that justifies or excuses such bad behavior on the part of the people leaving such rude & vulgar comments. From an impartial bystander...maybe the people leaving those kind of comments should consider that you are the ones that look bad here, not Brittany.

  12. Brittany...I would like to apologize for all these mean & nasty comments...I really don't know how some people can be so rude!

  13. Poor Brittany is everybody picking on her? Shame on them. They are just letting you know what they think. This is way better than what the people on the Abilene Reporter News comment said. Some of those comments where taken off because of the language. I aways thought you were suppose to be honest. These people are just being honest with "the dog was bigger than I was"
and it was a "homemade doggy door of some kind". Nope I never would have thought a dog coming out of a doggy door. How about that I have never heard of such a thing how about you?

  14. She should take the good with the bad. It seems that the negative comments out weight the positive. Even the positive comments won't leave their name. Kinda funny don't you think.

  15. OH I love the feed back Fridays. What did yall look through the whole mail bag and take out just the positive feedback. I also liked the part about the employees moving on. It should have been forced to move along. I know all of the feed is not positive because NOONE at my work place sent in a positive feedback NOONE. We employee about 300 hundred people in all three places. Got answers for that. Oh I'm sure it has something to do with all the fun everybody is having. FUF FUN FUN RIGHT???????

  17. If Miss Courtney is any good they will force her out like they did all the others. Unfortunately I haven't see Courtney because I no longer watch the "big country" news stations.
